How To Paint a Watercolor Peony

How To Paint a Watercolor Peony – Simple flower painting tutorial with lots of pictures!

How To Paint a Watercolor Peony

I’m using watercolors and watercolor paper for this tutorial. You could however, apply this technique to any medium!

For the base of your flower you want only a small amount of color on your brush, and lots of water. Experiment with watering down your watercolors and dripping the intensity of the color back into the cup, to create a “watered down pink”.

Make your light pink base of the flower.

Now you will start to use more intense colors, grab some red and create the petals flowing in a circular direction. Don’t worry about placing the lines in the same spots as mine, this is where yours becomes original You’ll start to develop an understanding of where the shades should go.

Add some orange petals too!

You may add a leaf or two 🙂

Back to your red, add more water to it and create a intense hue for some outside petals.

Keep the petals flowing around in a circle and “WA-LA” its a flower!
